 Breaking up Bad reception on your mobile makes for a bad conversation. You only get partial words and phrases. It can feel a bit like that when you read the Bible, your eyes are skimming along the sentences but your heart is either elsewhere or disengaged. God’s Word at these times seems dry and disconnected to our lives. Perhaps God feels distant not only when you read his Word but when you pray to him. If this is your experience then you are not alone and you are not without help. God has provided you with the Psalms. |

The first time I read through 1 Samuel to 2 Chronicles, I remember thinking two things. Firstly, I never knew that Israel’s history was littered with so many interesting and strange stories. But secondly, I wondered why so much of it seemed unnecessarily repetitive and elaborate. In this article, I’d like to explore those issues and seek to answer two questions: what are the books of Samuel, Kings and Chronicles doing in the bible, and why should we read them? |

Jesus has been under a lot of attack recently. From the Jesus Seminar to the DaVinci Code to the million and one Jesus cults - it seems more fashionable than ever before to have an opinion about Jesus other than the traditional view! And perhaps no other aspect of Jesus is as challenged as his deity. You’ve heard the claims before: “He never said he was God!”, “His followers only made up stories to support his deity after he died!” or “It was history that decided that Jesus was God!”
So what’s the deal? Was Jesus God or not, and is that actually an issue worth debating? |
